Note to dial-in users: This installation is a lengthy process. Dial-in users should allow up to 5+ hours to completely install Trend Micro Office Scan.

OfficeScan Residence Hall Installation for XP, 2000


Installing the Managed Trend Micro OfficeScan client for the residence hall user requires three steps:

  1. Uninstall Current Antivirus
  2. Install OfficeScan
  3. Update OfficeScan

Uninstall Current Antivirus

  1. Use Add and Remove Programs to remove current antivirus. If the anti-virus will not uninstall through Add and Remove Programs see the utilities below.

Install Trend Micro OfficeScan

  1. Download a client from below and SAVE it to the desktop. If the client is not saved to the local PC it will error. K-State eID is required for download. Note: If you don't know if you need the 64-bit client, please download ResScan.exe.

  2. Navigate to the location where you saved the download
    • Double-click ResScan.exe or ResScan64.exe to begin installation.

    Note: The installation could take 2-3 minutes to begin. Please be patient and do not click the executable a second time. This could cause the installation to hang or FAIL.


  3. A Trend Micro OfficeScan banner will appear, followed by a Setup window. When the Setup window closes, Trend Micro OfficeScan is installed.

Update Trend Micro OfficeScan

  1. Right click the OfficeScan icon located in bottom right hand corner of screen. Image
  2. Select Update Now
  3. A Trend Micro Window will appear. Click Update Now to initiate the update.

NOTE: If installing Trend Micro from off campus as part of the computer registration process please re-run the CSA agent to continue. The CSA agent should have been saved to the local computer during the initial steps of registration.
